After a long hiatus from swimming, we ventured back to the gym's indoor pool today. Owen hasn't been in a pool since our short (actually very short) trip to Ocean City in November for Daddy's birthday. But it didn't take long for him to adjust to the water. We have been waiting and waiting for the baby pool to open, but it's still closed, but we decided to go up anyway. The water was very warm in the pool. The indoor facility is like a tent, so all this will be outside in the summer time. During the winter, it's fairly warm even in the tent, so you're not even aware that your outside! The pools are brand new (they were under construction when we joined the gym in September). So it's a brand new facility. Owen and I walked through it last week when we went to play at the gym, but decided not to swim because the baby pool was closed.
But today, even without the baby pool, we had a blast. Mommy hurt her back over the weekend, so it was nice to have the pool to play in. Owen even got confident enough to hold onto the steps and walk around without Mommy.
The baby pool is still under construction, supposedly going to open up in about 2 weeks. But they do have a shallow pool, which ranges from 2-4 feet, and the shallow end was perfect for Owen to stand up all by himself. It was up to his neck, but he really enjoyed himself. We swam and swam and he kicked his feet and jumped in off the side, and really had fun.
They also have a cool, child friendly area with sprinklers (pictured here) call the Splash Pad. When the sprinklers came on, Owen was a little scared, but by the end we were giggling and having a good time. The sprinklers were much colder than the pool, probably because you aren't immersed in the water so we were both shivering by the time we wrapped up. But it was a lot of fun.
At one point, I had Owen laughing so hard in the pool other people were commenting that we had TOO much fun. We swam and played for over an hour, and both had a blast. It's really great to have the BAAC to go to during these cool winter days, it lets us do so many fun activities! If only Mommy had time to WORK OUT!!!
